Andreas Teichmann Fotografie, Kunsthandwerkerhaus Essen

Photographer Andreas Teichmann has furnished his studio and office in the historic Kunstwerkerhaus in Essen. For a long time, steam and drilling machines along with compressors for mining were produced in the tall and expansive rooms of Franz Dinnendahl’s former machine factory. Today they provide a creative frame for the photographer’s studio work – but at the same time they place higher demands on the interior furnishings. The specifications that Andreas Teichmann formulated together with the certified designer Heike Ghaderi from Wuppertal were not easy: To make it possible for his colleagues to work together without interferences, individual areas needed to be separated. At the same time the generosity and charm of the expansive factory halls had to be preserved. At first glance, these may be seen as opposing requirements, but a closer look reveals this to be a task for which the sliding doors and partitioning walls of raumplus are extremely well suited, since they easily resolve the apparent contradiction. They quickly agreed on sliding doors with aesthetically appealing, foil-covered glass panels that let a lot of light into the rooms. Here the actual challenge for raumplus was in the details: the height of the hall! Because with a ceiling height of 11.48’ and more, even customized assemblies have certain limits. Movable elements, such as the sliding doors, quickly become too heavy and can then no longer be operated comfortably and safely. But raumplus wouldn’t be raumplus if it wouldn’t be possible to find a solution here too: To guarantee the safety and user-friendliness, the designers relied on floor- and ceiling-supported sliding doors. The result is quite presentable and the photographer Andreas Teichmann and his employees feel more than comfortable in their creative environment – a happy association of old and new.
